"I'm not a usual reader of post-apocalyptic stories though I
loved The Road by Cormac McCarthy and The Flood by Margaret Atwater and the
story of Ferroc reminds me of those writers in a number of ways. The author has
developed a fascinating story-line, about what makes us human. The characters
are well-developed, the story keeps one turning pages and there are layers of
meaning wrapped inside Ferroc's journey to discover who he really is. My husband
who doesn't read ANY sci-fi or post apocalyptic novels picked this up and kept
reading. That says a lot to me about an author's ability to engage through
story. Well done. I'll look forward to the next in the series."

"Being a fan of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "The
Hunger Games", I would put this book in the same category in terms of suspense,
intrigue, and creation of the characters. I really enjoyed the book, found it
difficult to put down once I started reading it, and am looking forward to the
sequel."

"I'll admit I had to look up the meaning of the title and its correct
pronunciation--but when I started reading the first pages, I was hooked. "I'm
not just a machine...I'm not human either," says the main character, Ferroc, and
this describes his journey into discovering who he is, his "coming into being,"
and how he fits into the post-apocalyptic world around him. I'm a big fan of the
"Terminator" movies, and this book reminded me of those highly suspenseful
flicks which not only provide a good ride, but also give character depth into
even the most un-human beings. Indeed, I couldn't put the book down, it was so
suspenseful!
Rutschow's story draws you into the curious life of a
half-man/half-killing machine struggling not to survive, but to make meaning of
his survival. His search for humans (and human companionship) in the years after
an alien attack bring him in contact with a few hostile "leftover" aliens and
robot drones, which provide the reader with some very vivid fight scenes, and
provide the main character with conscience struggles...and new energy sources
for his own existence. When Ferroc finally meets a living human being, she's not
exactly what he expected, and their relationship ebbs and flows as they try to
maneuver the world around them.
I would love to see a national publisher
pick up this book because I'm looking forward to Volume 2!"

"Nascence is a story of a cybernetic entity who faces a moral dilemma, but the
entity becomes so much more than a machine along the way. He regains his
humanity differently than you might expect! Well worth the read. Once you get
past the novel being written in present tense, there are no other real problems
present. Was not a big fan of the profanity used, but I believe it was used with
taste, being that the world was harsh enough to require certain words to be
spoken or thought by the characters. Great first attempt from this author and I
can't wait to read more from him in the future!"

"Nascence--The Story of Ferroc was very well written and easy to follow. I am not
a big fan of science fiction but I really enjoyed the story and the great
detail. Such imagination!"

"Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It has a great story with some unexpected
twists. The relationships between the characters are very well-made and the
action scenes are very fast paced and thorough. Definitely read this if you like
philosophical, character-driven Sci-Fi and/or post-apocalyptic survival stories.
I also appreciate that the content of this novel came directly from the author."
